India’s Second Moon Mission: Chandrayaan 2

Today 22.07.2019 is a great historical day for India as Chandrayaan 2 successfully launch in space with the help of GSLV-MkIII-M1, with aimed at landing a rover on Lunar South Pole where no country has gone before.

The launch planned on 15.07.2019, Monday in early hours and because of technical snag launch called off. This is an example of how tight quality control measures are taken to make this mission successful.

Here some pictures  showing successful launch of Chandrayaan2

Great words from ISRO Chief Dr.K.Sivan

I’m extremely happy to announce that the GSLVMkIII-M1 successfully injected Chandrayaan 2 spacecraft into Earth Orbit. It is the beginning of a historic journey of India towards moon and to land at a place near south pole to carry out scientific experiments.

We have bounce back with flying colours.

I salute to all those involved in the launch of Chandrayaan2

Some Facts

  • GSLV Mk-III: Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark-III This is a three stage most powerful vehicle carry Chandrayaan 2

  • LANDER: Chandrayaan 2’s lander is named Vikram after Dr Vikram A Sarabhai, the Father of the Indian space Programme. It is designed to function for one lunar day, which is equivalent to about 14 Earth days.
  • ROVER: Chandrayaan 2’s rover is a 6-wheeled robotic vehicle named Pragyan, which translates to ‘wisdom’ in Sanskrit. It can travel up to 500 m (0.5 km) at a speed of 1 centimetre per second, and leverages solar energy for its functioning. It can communicate with the lander.
